Hijiri BridgeChiyoda JapanBridge

The parabolic arch bridge spanning the Kanda River, adjacent to Ochanomizu Station on the JR Chuo Line, was completed in 1927. It is one of the reconstruction bridges built after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Designed by Mamoru Yamada and Katsutake Naruse, it was selected as a Civil Engineering Heritage Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2017. Its name, chosen through a public contest, signifies "connecting the Yushima Church on the north side and the Nicholas Church on the south side." In the past, the bridge was specially designed so that it was most beautiful when viewed from boats on the Kanda River.
